Artist Statement
The Cascadian forests of the West Coast are the deepest source of my artistic inspiration. I am drawn to vistas and views through the trees and down to the water, following the flow of color variations and visual rhythms created by this natural environment. The way that light plays through this landscape, illuminating the inner and outer journey, is the fundamental inspiration for my paintings.
I love the expressive quality of paint in all its forms. My current work is focused on exploring the intricate symbiosis between the trees and the life forms of the forest floor. To explore these interconnections, I am currently working with a variety of materials, including acrylics, oils, and mixed media to build this layered imagery with all its intricate complexity.
Through the painting process, I make new discoveries about these landscapes, revealed in the interplay between color and light on the trees, and on the spaces above and below. The joy and renewal of spirit that comes from this experience completes the original journey for me and becomes the inspiration for further explorations.
